Literature Text

On their way back to Alice's house, there was an odd silence in the air. While [Name] was humming a happy tune and looking up and down the dark streets; Alice was staring down at ground like it was the most interesting thing she'd ever seen. The sound of their shoes tapping against the pavement and the slow, taunting raindrops are slowly driving Alice mad.

Desperate to start up a conversation, Alice blurted out a sudden "So, um-!"

[Name] looked down at the nervous blonde, "Yes?"

Alice froze. Somewhere in her mind, she hoped that he didn't actually hear her; but now that he did, she was trapped. But she honestly had nothing to say…

"U-Um…nice weather, isn't it…?" She said most in a whisper.

[Name] looked up at the sky curiously, holding out his hand, "…Yeah, it is. It's a bit rainy but nice none the less."

"Yeah…"

"By the way, Alice-?"

Alice looked back up, "Yes?"

"How did you feel about Bella?"

"…She was nice, rather friendly."

"Oh yes, Bella's a very upbeat person!" [Name] chuckled.

'This is going better than I thought…'

Alice glanced down at the ground again, "So, how did you two meet?"

"I met her on the street. I was lost and she helped me out." [Name] smiled, "Then we went to get waffles~!"

Alice sweat dropped, "I see…"

'This man and sweets, honestly…But what's so special about waffles in London…?'

"…Were they good?" Alice enquired.

[Name] nodded, "Yes, very~!"

"I see… What street did you get them on?"

"I don't know… It was somewhere near the Central station…" [Name] replied as he rubbed his chin in thought, "They say it's the smallest waffle shop in the world!"

"That's nice…" Alice muttered, looking ahead, "Maybe we could go there sometime?"

When she heard [Name] stifle a laugh, Alice looked up at the [hair colour]-haired man. She saw him slightly hunched over and trembling, head turned to the side. At first, Alice was worried but then she saw his face. His lips were tight and his cheeks were puffed out, trying to hold in… laughter?

'But why is he laughing…?' Alice wondered.

[Name] turned back to the confused blonde, "Sure, when do you want to go?" he replied again in an amused tone.

Alice raised her eyebrows, "…Next week, I suppose…?"

"O-Okay..!" he paused to regain control over himself, "You have a passport?" [Name]'s mouth trembled even more, holding back the laughter behind his lips.

Alice paused and blinked at the peculiar young man, "…Yes… Why?"

[Name] just burst out laughing, making Alice even more confused.

"W-Well, you're going to need it…!" he gasped out before his roaring laughter.

"…What's so funny?" Alice asked slowly, giving [Name] a confused grimace.

[Name]'s laughter died down, settling into a small giggling.

"Well, for one, your attitude about the whole situation…!" he replied, wiping the tears out of his [eye colour] eyes.

"What about my attitude?"

"You just sounded so nonchalant about it, it is funny!" he giggled, holding his stomach.

"What is there to be so difficult about it? We're talking about going to a waffle shop."

"Well, the fact we have to take a plane to get there!" [Name] laughed.

"A plane?!"

"Or a boat…then a bus, a train or a car…" [Name] mused, counting the choices on his fingers, "Or all three, I don't know."

"Now who's being nonchalant, huh?"

[Name] grinned, "Touché~!"

"Why the hell would we need all of that, anyways?" Alice cried.

[Name] bit his lip to keep the on-coming laughter in. "That's the 2nd funny part: the location~"

"…Where is this bloody shop, [Name]?"

"In Belgium!" the [hair colour]-haired man laughed out.

"…Belgium?"

[Name] nodded, still snickering to himself.

"…Why were you in Belgium?!"

[Name] shrugged, "I was in the neighbourhood…"

Alice sweat dropped, "You're talking about it like it's a shop you stopped by…"

[Name] grinned sheepishly, looking ahead, "Yeah, I guess I am."

Comfortable silence fell over the two for a while before Alice stopped.

"This is my home." She said.

[Name] looked towards the house standing in front of them. It looked a two-story brick building but due to the darkness and rain, [Name] could not see the colour. It had two nicely-trimmed hedges in front and a small porch.

"Whoa… It looks nice and big." [Name] commented as he walked the young woman to her door.

After ducking under the porch, [Name] turned to close and shake the umbrella of excess water. Waiting for the latter to finish his task, Alice quietly shuffled her feet. Her black flats made sounds that echoed through the rainy darkness, along with the rustle of the white water-proof plastic of the umbrella.

Giving it one last shake, [Name] turned back to Alice, "There~"

"Thank you for walking me home…" Alice's cheeks turning a rosy colour as she looked down at the floor of her porch.

[Name] smiled gently at the shy Brit, "It was my pleasure."

Alice glanced towards the door, "W-Would you like to come inside?"

"I would love to but I should be heading back home now. I have to get up early to go to that job interview at the café, remember?"

"Oh, right…" she replied, disappointment wavering in her voice.

[Name] gave her a sympathetic smile, "I'm sorry. But don't worry, if I get the job; you can come to the café anytime you want to see me."

Alice's eyes widen a bit, "You want… to see me again?"

[Name]'s smile widen, "Of course; you're a very nice person, Alice."

Alice's face turned a little red, making [Name] giggle. He reached into his bag and pulled out something that looked like a piece of paper.

He caught Alice's hand and put it in her hand, "Here."

Alice looked in her hand at the paper. It was about the size of a business card and folded in half.

"Good night, Alice." [Name] smiled and lightly kissed her on the cheek.

Alice's eyes widen and she reached up to touch her cheek, face burning hot, "G-Good night, [Name]…"

[Name] grinned before turning to opening the umbrella and jumped down the small flight of steps; splashing in a puddle at the bottom. He glanced back at Alice and nodded before turning back around and going off on his way.

Alice just blankly watched him go then she realized she still had his coat on.

"Wait!" she shouted, causing the [hair colour]-ette to turn back to her. She quickly took it off and held it up, "You forgot your coat!"

The man smiled and shouted back, "Keep it! It will give you another reason to see me again, no?" And with that, he gave a tip of his imaginary hat and walked away; back into the darkness until Alice didn't see him anymore.

Alice watched him leave until she could no longer see him. Then she turned, unlocked her door and stepped inside. She went to put her keys down and threw the coat over the armrest of her couch. Flopping down next to it, she glanced at it and leaned back in her seat.

'What an unusual man…' she thought for a second then pouted, 'As if I'd need another reason to see him again…'

She uncurled her right hand and looked down at its content. The folded paper [Name] had given her laid in her hand, slightly crumpled. Alice picked it up and unfolded it.
In lovely black ink, a phone number was scribbled on the paper, next to the words:

'Here's my number,
So call me maybe~ XD

-[Name]'

Alice just smirked and leaned against the coat-covered armrest.

"[Name], you silly git…"
